Day one: We depart from San Cristóbal de Las Casas at 6:00AM, and travel approximately 2 hours to the city of Comitán, where we’ll have breakfast. Our trip continues through the eastern mountains until we arrive in the town where we embark on a 2-hour journey down the Jataté River. Upon crossing the river we arrive at the Zapata Ejido, prepare our gear and backpacks, and continue our adventure to the Miramar Lagoon. After a two-hour hike, through mud and over wooden bridges, at last we arrive at the Lagoon. Miramar! We’ll set up camp, where the warm waters of the Lagoon invite us to relax after a long day. (Breakfast, snacks, lunch, and dinner).
Day two: After breakfast, we’ll go for a morning canoe trip to explore the areas around the Lagoon. On this trip, we’ll see the “Turtle Cave” and admire pictographs from the ancient civilization that lived on the Lagoon. We can also swim in various parts of the Lagoon. In the afternoon we’ll return to base camp to eat lunch and rest a little to regain our energy for a 40-minute walk, where we’ll see more ancient rock art, this time an “anthropomorphic” sculpture in bas-relief on a nearly 30-meter cliff. Our hike continues until we arrive at the “Crocodile Lagoon,” and if we’re lucky we’ll catch some of these fascinating reptiles sunbathing on the edge of the water. (Breakfast, snacks, lunch, and dinner).
Day three: In the morning we’ll have breakfast, we’ll take one last dip in the water and then prepare to hike out on the same trail we came in on the first day. (Breakfast).
